Our Dietitian Doris Farrell: Registered Dietitian in Toronto
Doris Farrell, RD was born and raised in Toronto- she lived abroad for two decades and now has returned to her roots. She is the mother of two grown daughters and has always had a passion for healthy eating and cooking. How nutrition affects growth, development and disease prevention are paramount to her interest in the topic.
She holds a degree in Economics from Queen’s University but started a second career in nutrition with a degree in Dietetics from Kansas State University and did a yearlong internship through Virginia Tech University in 2015. She was a clinical dietitian at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC, part of the Johns Hopkins network. Her experience includes managing the nutritional status of kidney dialysis patients at Fresenius Kidney Care center in Baltimore, Maryland. She also worked as a nutrition educator for WIC (Women, Infant & Children) in Plant City, Florida. There she assessed and counselled pregnant women, infants and children under 5; offered breastfeeding and formula feeding strategies and advised on other diet related issues as needed.
Once returning to Canada, Doris had to qualify to work in Ontario by taking the national RD exam. She is a member of the Dietitians of Canada and registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
