Many people are surprised when they first learn that chiropractic care is available for babies. They are surprised because their mind immediately goes to how adult chiropractic care works. But chiropractic care for babies is actually quite different and uses the lightest of touches.
What does infant chiropractic care treat?
Chiropractic care for babies can be used to treat a variety of conditions starting with neck and spine injuries that may have occurred during the birthing process. This can happen in particular when babies are delivered using forceps, vacuum suction, or even C-section.
Some babies that are born with neck injuries have difficulty turning their heads from side to side. This can make the baby very uncomfortable which can make breastfeeding a huge challenge.

Finally, since babies grow so rapidly in the early stages of their lives, chiropractic care can be an excellent way of making sure that everything is aligned properly and to correct minor issues before they become more problematic.
What does chiropractic care for babies involve?
Chiropractic care for babies is very different from chiropractic care for adults. Baby's spines are delicate and only require light pressure and delicate rocking to adjust. It is so gentle in fact, that many babies sleep through the entire treatment!
For most sessions, we will have Mom or Dad hold the baby the entire time. Our in-house chiropractor gently works on the baby’s back while she is lying on Mom’s chest. Then Mom holds the baby in a cradle position so that our chiropractor can make gentle adjustments on the baby’s neck. There is never any “cracking” or twisting and turning.
As your baby grows, they will eventually be able to lay on the table on their own, but parents are never far away.
